Defendant
Person sued, person standing trial or appearing for sentence.
Deferred Sentence
Postponement of a sentencing decision.
Discharge
The offender is found guilty of the offence, and the conviction appears on his or her criminal record, but either no further action is taken at all (absolute discharge), or no further action is taken as long as they do not offend again within a certain period of time (conditional discharge).
District Court
The lowest level of Court in Scotland, dealing only with summary criminal matters. In summary procedure the Judge / Justice sits on his own, but in solemn procedure the Judge / Justice sits with a Jury.
Drug Treatment and Testing Order (DTTO)
When the offender has an established pattern of drug misuse related to their offending, a DTTO will be made.  All Orders  have a treatment, testing and Court review requirement.
